About Moss:
AESTHETICS | COMFORT | INTEGRITY
Using established techniques, they manufacture high quality furniture known for its style, durability, and comfort.
Their product is all made to order and available in a wide variety of custom features, including options in frame construction, cushion fill, and an extensive selection of fabrics.
Each piece is produced in their factory in Los Angeles, CA with durable materials that speak to their company’s character.
The Manufacturing Process:
Frame – all frames are assembled by hand in their factory using 1" alder, a western hardwood, with 4x4 frame grade centers. The frames are secured using industrial grade screws and staples to ensure the lifetime guarantee of the frame.
Spring System – the spring system is constructed using 9 gauge, no sag, sinuous steel springs. The springs are clipped and stapled to the frame. The spring system is then hand tied with italian twine for strength, durability and stability. 11 gauge is used in tight back styles.
Frame Preparation – after the spring system is secured, the entire framed is covered with 1” foam. Depending on the sofa style, a layer of blended polyester may be added at this time. If the piece is to be slipcovered, the prepared frame will be covered with high-grade ivory muslin.
Cushions – standard seat cushions are made specifically for them from a high density, hypo-allergenic cloud nine 2-pound HR foam. This foam outperforms other foams by 10 – 15 times. The foam is then enveloped by a 10/90 white goose/down fill with a zipper enclosure. This construction allows for excellent shape retention with no “pancake” effect. The standard back cushion are 60% 90/10 (90% white goose feathers and 10% down) and 40% micro clusters which will maintain the shape of the cushion. The cushions will relax and provide the comfort and support Moss Home is known for. Regular maintenance will extend the life of the cushion. Simply adjusting the foam within the envelope and fluffing and flipping the cushions will keep them looking like new. Some contemporary styles have been designed using foam only in the cushions to retain the integrity of the design. Other variations of down and/or foam are available upon request with a possible upcharge. All styles can be ordered with a bench seat option.
Zippers – zippers and hardware items used in the manufacture of Moss Home furniture are of the highest quality available for upholstery application.
Seams – all seams are overlocked for durability.
Welts – all cushions are offered with the standard welt. A contrasting welt is available if the fabric is available in house or supplied by customer. Other welt options include: knife-edge, flat flange, and top-stitched. Contact Carte Blanche for customizations. If pattern matching is required, an upcharge may apply.
Top Stitching – top stitching is available in place of welts. Contact Carte Blanche for customizations.
Skirt Types – they offer several different skirt options. Standard options include: (1) kick pleat to the floor; (2) short kick pleat; (3) wrap skirt to floor; and (4) short wrap skirt. Other skirt options include: (1) dressmaker; (2) ruffle skirt to the floor; and (3) short ruffle skirt; contact Carte Blanche for customizations. Please note: all slipcovers are made with skirts, as shown in the catalog, at no upcharge. Upholstered items are not made with a skirt, unless you upgrade to add one.
Legs – legs are screwed into corner blocks of frame. Standard leg choices are available. Color choices include ebony, walnut and natural. Caster legs and other specialty legs are available upon request. Contact Carte Blanche for customizations.
Decorative items – nail heads and other decorative accessories are available. Nail heads are available in either a chain style or individually applied. Contact Carte Blanche for customizations.
Sleeper conversions – most sofa styles, as well as the loveseat and chair and a half, are available with sleeper bed options. The mattress is a quilted (one side) in-spring mattress. If you choose to slipcover your sleeper, the slipcover is manufactured the same way their regular slipcover is made with one exception. A zipper runs from the bottom front of one arm, all around the bottom of the back and ends at the bottom front of the opposite arm. When the slipcover is unzipped, the sleeper can be easily unfolded. When the slipcover is zipped, the sleeper mechanism can’t be seen.
