Late 19th-Century French Carved Oak Library Table

Late 19th-Century French Carved Oak Library Table

$3,200.00

A beautifully proportioned French oak table distinguished by its architectural base, richly carved details, and warm, timeworn finish. Dating to the late 19th century, the piece features a substantial rectangular top with softly rounded corners and a decorative carved border.

Below, turned supports rise from shaped trestle feet and frame an unusually detailed central stretcher with carved arches and spindle accents. The craftsmanship gives the table presence from every angle, while its nearly square proportions make it especially versatile.

At 29.5 inches high, it can function as an intimate dining table, library table, generous writing desk, or distinctive center table. Its sculptural silhouette brings depth and history to both traditional rooms and more restrained contemporary interiors.

Why We Love It

We love the balance between ornament and utility. The carved base is full of character without making the table feel overly formal, while the warm oak and compact proportions allow it to work in many different settings. It is the kind of antique that anchors a room—interesting enough to stand alone, yet practical enough to be used every day.

Design Notes

Style it as a small dining table surrounded by four contrasting chairs, or use it in a library or study as a writing table. It would also make a compelling center table in a large entry, layered with books, pottery, or an oversized floral arrangement.
